Salem Speedway Touchstone Energy Summer Shootout with the O’Reilly USA Modified Series

On Saturday June 23rd the O’Reilly USA Modified Series added another class of exciting racing competition to the regular classes at historic Salem Speedway.  The Indianapolis based series featured a six-lap Dash, ten-lap Heat Race and the featured Clark County REMC/Southern Indiana REC 40.  Brad Springer won the feature.  Tim Taylor, Rodney Scott, Bob Curry and Steve Curry rounded out the top five.  More can be read about this series, its drivers, cars and schedule at

Four regular Salem Speedway classes competed in season points races.  Competition and entertainment ruled the day with plenty of action on the track.  Brandon Carr was Fast Qualifier in the McDonald’s Dash Series at 20.225 seconds.  However, his speed did not hold up for the race as Martin Belcher took the checkered flag, followed by Shawn Smith and Pastor Ron Lasley.

The Dave & Deb’s Winner’s Circle Street Stocks saw another competitive and entertaining race with Scott Beeler leading at the end after several strong challenges throughout the race.  Challengers included runner-up Troy Phillips and Frank Kimmel II who finished third after pressuring Beeler throughout the race.  David Bayens also was in the chase through most of the race.  Kimmel was fastest qualifier at 19.834 seconds.

Todd Kempf led the pack in qualifying with a time of 19.320 for the Lucas Oil Super Stocks class.  However, Alan Huddleston finished first with Chris French, Mike Sharp, Skeeter Crum and Eric Brooks completing the top five finishers.

Keith Gardner started on the pole as fastest qualifier at 16.716 in the featured Papa John’s Late Models class.  The competition was tough. Gardner had to fight back to take the checkered flag in the featured Papa John’s Late Models class. Will Kimmel,  Joe Williamson, Brad Craven and Jason Dunn completed the top five.
