Midwest Racing Roundup   By Tom Botos   6-14-10
Well racefans it was almost a complete washout this weekend as far as Indiana racing goes with the exception being Mt. Lawn Speedway was able to get there CRA Super Show in of CRA Sportsman,CRA Street Stocks and CRA FWD Compacts. Eric Evans won the CRA Sportsman featuer on a last lap pass when the leader #7 Jason Atkinson was help up in lapped traffic. I guess it is just part of racing when you as a driver show courtesy and allow the faster lead lap cars around you so that you dont affect the outcome of such an important race? I guess when you look at it everyone on the track is racing for position and should not give any ground? What do you think fans? Should drivers be penalized any or non eat all for not obeying the "the move for faster traffic flag" ? It was a great show all night long in all three divisions and i had a great time and I hope you did too! Congratulations to Jeff Lane winning the CRA Street Stock feature and Brian  Lewis on his CRA Compact Feature win.
My Midwest Racing Fan Of The Week is Jonathon Johnson from Merrill Wisconsin. Jonathons hometrack is Golden Sands Speedway I am asuuming it is in Wisconsin also? Jonathon,s favorite driver is Steve Carlson. Jonathon says he would like to visit Salem (IN) Speedway more often as it is his favorite track. Jonathon would also like to see the ASA MIdwest Series more often as well. Jonathon has traveled as far as 2,500 miles to see a race! Think that qualifies him as  a fan of the week candidate right? Jonathon spent several hours chatting racing with Dave Egan and Chris Ballantine during the Jim Blount Memorial Super Late Model race at Plymouth (IN) Speedway. These guys are definitely true trackchasers! Jonathon agrees with me that more tracks should allow coolers and make sure race programs run on time. Jonathon has been a racefan since 1981. Jonathon attends races somewhere every week and enjoys the late model division the best. Jonathon supports not only your weekly regular programs  but the special event shows as well. jonathon has been to the Show Me 100 Dirt Late Model race. The World 100 for late models and the Diamond National are also on his show attendance list! Jonathon would like to see al tracks have scoreboards to keep fans and race teams up to date and also more tracks should have driver listings and point standings in the program or for pucrhase as a printed copy. I hope to run into Jonathon again at another race he is a very nice person to chat with about racing!
Baer Field,Anderson,New Paris,Kokomo,Bloomington all were canceled due to rain this weekend. I would definitely not want to be a promoter trying to battle the weather, poor economy and fan and driver counts trying to keep the tracks open must be a very daunting task! drivers have asked me if I know of anyone to sponsor them I just shrug my shoulders as I do not have those kinds of conections in the racing world. I wish I had the resources to own a race team and be able to travel and see new race tracks is an all time dream of mine.
Congratulations goes out to Derrick Griffin on his win in the Great Lakes Outlaw Super Late Model Series. It was the second outing for this new series which was canceled at Baer Field Speedway Saturday NIght due to rain. Derrick Griffin won the Stan Perry Memorial at Angola Motor Speedway.
The Hoosier Hills 100 is Saturday June 19th at Salem (IN) Speedway which is a race for the Ken-Ten Kentucky Tennessee Late Model Series. I have not seen this series in person yet. It should be an awesome program as the Super Stock and Street Stocks race on the 1/2 mile with the Late Models. The Pure Stocks and FWD Stocks will race on the NEW short track inside the 1/2 mile oval! Go to Salem  Speedway and witness the first ever races on the short track track inside the 1/2 high banked oval! For more information go to .
Anderson Speedway hosts the CRA Street Stock 300 Saturday June 19th! This is the biggest event all year long for the CRA Street Stocks paying 5,000 to the winner! I am very excited about this event as it draws the best street stock drivers in the midwest to wage war for 300 laps on the high banks of Anderson Speedway. These drivers race against  each other all season long bumping and banging trading paint and Anderson serves as the arena for the CRA steel gladiators Saturday Night!
Mt. Lawn Speedway hosts Chamber of Commerce Night Featuring Late models,Thundercars and Hornets plus UMRA TQ MIdgets Saturday June 19th. For more information go to
Below is the upcoming schedule for Gas City I 69 Speedway. If you have any news, notes or comments email me at . Gotta go see ya at the races!
