Sonny Blackwell drives the #8 Cyclone Class car.  His home track is Route 66 Motor Speedway but he can also be found racing at Ned Houk Motorsports Complex.  He lives in Fritch, TX.

Team members helping Sonny are:  Mike Karlin, Kiff Boyer, J. P. Smith, Layne Blackwell - Grandson.

Sonny started racing in 1999 in the Cyclone Class at Route 66 Motor Speedway to have fun with friends that raced - Mike Karlin and Kiff Boyer.  His first win was in '01 in the Cyclone Class at Route 66 Motor Speedway.  Career highlights include '02 Track Champion in Cyclone Class and 3 wins, '04 finished in 3rd place in the Cyclone Class and 2 wins, '07 finished in 3rd place in the Cyclone Class and 1 win.

The thrill of racing for Sonny is to make a pass for a win on the last lap.  His most exciting racing moment was his first win in '02 15 car lengths behind the leader with 7 laps to go and made a pass on the last lap to win.  He's most proud of his '02 Championship.

Sonny's racing hero is Dale Earnhardt Jr.
